  1. Hi! When do we start posting here? Also, how do I post an original post on your blog?

  2. Today was very fascinating going into middle school. Dunbar seems like it will be a great experience for me being that I was very skeptical of the age groups maturity level. My cooperating teacher appears she will be an asset to my development as a teacher. The students were nice which made me feel welcomed. I do think I will have a great experience here at this school. I hope everyone else's experiece was just as exciting.

  3. Ladies, I am not going to lie; I was exhausted when I left Causey Middle on Wednesday. I have not been inside a middle school since I was in middle school. My cooperating teacher is excited to have me and welcomes my questions as well as ideas for instruction. This week the classes our doing their poetry unit and are composing haikus, limericks, odes, cinquains, and tankas. It has been a long time since I have held a conversation with someone in this age group. They say the most ridiculous and off the wall things! I believe that I am going to have an interesting and fun experience. I hope that everyone is having a good experience.

  4. Brad, I know exactly what you mean. Ursula and I witnessed the beginning of one of the drama classes at Dunbar in which each student had chosen an article of clothing to perform a skit about. We saw some of the silliest ideas and attempts at humor. I definitely did not remember what to expect from kids in middle school. Overall I had a good first day on Wednesday with my cooperating teacher. She said that she had one of the best cooperating teachers when she was in her teaching program and that she wanted to be that teacher for Ursula and me. We introduced ourselves to the class and observed the unit on quotations (both the definition of and how to punctuate them). I hope everyone had a good first week and am looking forward to seeing everybody again on Tuesday!

  5. BRAD, I am trying to think of a stronger adjective than exhausted because I know exactly what you mean. This is a profession that I know I will be doing for a long time. I just sometimes wonder how teachers with families have time to get everything done. I am getting married next summer and I am going to have to break the news to my fiance that it is going to be absolutley necessary to work on scheduling time for things. I teach about 100 9th grade Drama students, coach the varsity cheerleaders (which includes 4 games per week/4 hours per night),direct the main school production/musical--1-2 practice per week, and I am taking this class at South. By the time I get home, I am fatigued/exhausted/tired/ and any other adjective that we could think up right now! I guess and hope that our skin grows thicker as we get more experienced. I hope that this does not sound like I am venting (maybe a little stressed), but I know that most of the teachers I work with are exhausted when they leave school. If you ever need any advice, send me an email.

  6. Hi, people! Brad, don't feel like you are the only one...exhaustion is part of the job description! You will get used to it, but as a mother of an 11 year old and teacher of 9th graders, I must tell you that you will need all the strength you can muster some days just to smile at the person or persons you live with. Remember I told you guys that I came into teaching from the business world, which has its own brand of stress and issues. But with all the problems we face in education, I can honestly tell you I have enjoyed going to work everyday for the past three years.

  7. Hey everyone! I just wanted to agree with what Brad is saying about being so tired. I know that everyone is in agreement with him. This semester seems so overloaded with the time scheduled to go into the schools and all the class assignments. I wish we could do like the PE majors. As long as they get in the hours, it does not matter when they go. I know with me driving over an hour, I wish that I could just stay the whole day and then not go on Friday. Just think...a whole day of no class or observation!

  8. And the beat goes on...I just got finished working on my online course. It has proven to be more interesting than I first thought. It is also time consuming. But...I am not complaining. That class and the one I share with all you beautiful people marks the end of my ABC course work. Dare I say it, I will be glad when the semester is over! Don't laugh, you people will be glad, too! See you guys tomorrow night.

  9. Hi everyone! There's nothing like blogging at the last minute, I always say. I see that I'm not the only one who is tired at the end of the day. High school isn't nearly as tiring as middle school though. Duty free lunch, block scheduling and not walking the students everywhere does have its advantages. Fifteen years ago I worked as a teacher's aide with four year olds. At the end of the first day I told her I felt like we had been in a battle, and she said, "Yes, and we lost!"
